Turpentyne Fine Art Classes is currently looking for a Teacher of Drawing and Painting, to join our team in Gosforth

Teachers must be skillful and experienced in a wide range of art mediums, including: soft pastel, oil pastel, watercolour, acrylic, and oil painting. We accept a wide range of qualifications and courses relating to art and teaching.  All applicants will be expected to furnish a well rounded portfolio of work, demonstrating your skills in the listed mediums.  The ideal candidate will have realistic drawing and painting skills as well as an appreciation for cartooning and animation.

Most importantly, candidates must be honest, reliable, organized and punctual. We teach children from a young age so it is imperative that classes run on time every week. We require teachers who can be relied upon to run classes on their own and be able to use their own initiative. Appointment will be subject to Enhanced Disclosure Checks.

Candidates must be able to deliver highly structured instruction based upon our curriculum and methodology targeting the needs and interests of a variety of different ages and abilities. Candidates must be confident in their own ability to independently teach a class of up to 6 students, able to follow strict procedures and conduct themselves appropriately and with professionalism when dealing with children and their parents.

When working with children, personality is important!  The ideal candidate is happy to create art and is excited to share their knowledge with children who are anxious to learn.

Expected term time weekly working hours are to be: Tuesday-Friday 3:45-7:00pm and Saturday 8:45am-6:30pm. Exact schedule will be determined by our classroom needs and will be booked by the half term.

This position is for term time work only.  Work during the school holidays may be available but is not guaranteed.

Additional hours may be available during school breaks in the form of workshops, which can range from 4-8 hours per day Monday-Friday. Teachers may also be called upon to substitute teach the classes of another instructor when an illness arises.  The initial training period will require additional hours to be negotiated after hiring. If you are not available for all of the hours listed, or cannot commit to the studio for at least 1 year please do not apply.

At Turpentyne we offer a fun, challenging, and creative work environment with a tight knit and friendly staff.  Coffee, tea and snacks provided in the studio for staff.  Teachers on a zero-hours contract who have been on staff for over 6 months will receive a pro rata holiday bonus each December.


This position will train in August with regular hours commencing in September 2019.
